Sensitivity of top-down CO source estimates to the modeled vertical structure in atmospheric CO
We assessed the sensitivity of regional CO source estimates to the modeled vertical CO distribution by assimilating multi-spectral MOPITT (Measurements of Pollution In The Troposphere) V5J CO retrievals with the GEOSChem model. We compared the source estimates obtained by assimilating the CO profiles and the surface layer retrievals from June 2004 to May 2005. Because the surface layer retrieva...
متن کاملSensitivity and response of Bhutanese glaciers to atmospheric warming
[1] Glacierized change in the Himalayas affects riverdischarge, hydro-energy and agricultural production, and Glacial Lake Outburst Flood potential, but its quantification and extent of impacts remains highly uncertain. Here we present conservative, comprehensive and quantitative predictions for glacier area and meltwater flux changes in Bhutan, monsoonal Himalayas. In particular, we quantify t...
متن کاملThe Atmospheric Response to Projected Terrestrial Snow Changes in the Late Twenty-First Century
Two atmospheric general circulation model experiments are conducted with specified terrestrial snow conditions representative of 1980–99 and 2080–99. The snow states are obtained from twentieth-century and twenty-first-century coupled climate model integrations under increasing greenhouse gas concentrations. Sea surface temperatures, sea ice, and greenhouse gas concentrations are set to 1980–99...
متن کاملLogarithmic Response and Climate Sensitivity of Atmospheric CO2
The logarithmic response of global average surface warming to future increases of atmospheric carbon dioxide is derived analytically. The results include a simple and explicit formula for the equilibrium climate sensitivity. The values generated by this formula show deference to the low end of the current “best estimate” values. Policy implications of the findings are briefly discussed.
متن کاملInterpreting the Atmospheric Neutrino Anomaly
We suggest that the atmospheric neutrino anomaly observed in the Super-Kamiokande (and other) experiments results from the combined effects of muon-neutrino to tauneutrino oscillations with a ∆m value of approximately 0.4 eV 2 and oscillations between muon neutrinos and electron neutrinos (and vice-versa) with 0.0001< ∆m < 0.001 eV . With an appropriate choice of a three-neutrino mixing matrix,...
